Month 11: Sleepless in KL

Xuan has started teething her first 2 teeth on her bottom gum and this has been causing her not to sleep well at night. Poor baby has been really restless in her sleep and tossing and turning, and even crying out in her sleep many times at night. She wakes up every 1.5 hours to 2 hours and needs to breastfeed back to sleep. I think the breastfeeding helps to soothe her painful gums. H and I have tried carrying her to soothe her back to sleep but she just arches her back and goes into a rage.

Unfortunately, this has been going on for the past 3 weeks I am even more seriously deprived than usual. To make matters worse, I have a unit trust certification exam to sit for end of this month. This is part of my effort to explore alternative working opportunities. The hours are flexible, as I can arrange for appointments when I am free. I only make what I sell, so it’s up to me how much time I want to spend and how much money I want to make (which is quite miniscule, based on the commission). The good thing about this is that it’s flexible, and I can start doing this more seriously when Xuan is older and starts school.

Anyway, I have to study for the exam, which I only get to do at night after I put Xuan to sleep. But for the first 2 hours after I have put her to sleep, she keeps waking up every half hour. By the time I give up and decide to go to bed myself, I barely have time to fall asleep when she wakes up crying and starts waking up every 2 hours. I remember once I had a headache for 3 days straight from the lack of sleep. I even took some panadol at night, hoping it would make me sleep faster...and hoping that a small percentage of the panadol would end up in my breastmilk and work as a painkiller to soothe Xuan’s pain or work as a sleeping pil for Xuan! In case you are wondering, it didn’t work! At one point, I was so full of despair and desperate for sleep that I was contemplating running away and checking into a hotel for 3 days just to sleep.

Luckily, I did manage to pass the exam. H and Xuan came to give me moral support. The best thing was, right after the exam, we had something to look forward to, Xuan’s first holiday!

But before that, I want to share a couple of videos of Xuan.

This is a video of Xuan dancing:

This is a video of Xuan being "friends" with Daddy:
